Great for Communication

The Skype application brings you closer to your friends, while keeping costs at bay!

Today were taking a look at an application that most of the AFS team use on a daily basis to communicate work to the website. Skype is an instant message, voice and video call application that lets you talk to your friends worldwide free of charges.

Over 250 Million people use Skype to communicate worldwide, send files and share videos and pictures in a matter of seconds. There’s no limit to the size of files or photos that you can send and you can happily avoid expensive multimedia text message prices.

You can call mobiles and land-lines with a premium account that also requires credit and this feature also allows you to send low cost text messages to your friends.

Skype works on Wi-Fi and 3G so you don’t need to worry about staying near an internet connection while in your call, if the call drops out and you have a 3G connection, it automatically attempts to reconnect to the host of the call.

Skype is also available on tv’s tablets, smartphones, and Mac’s which means you can talk to your friends on almost any compatible device worldwide and is a fantastic application for group calling in business meetings (fees apply)

Skype is currently compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. It requires iOS 4.3 or later and comes in 16 different languages including English, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish.

Still not convinced? Check out our review of the app on the above YouTube video as we give it a thorough going over on the iPad Mini.
